On 26th October 2005, the 21-year old keeper became the quickest player ever to be sent off in the history of Old Trafford after just 80 seconds. It was a Carling Cup clash between Man Utd and Barnet, when Ross received a straight red-card from referee Richard Beeby, for handling the ball outside his area. At half-time Van der Sar went to comfort his former Fulham colleague who was said to be very distraught.
After a successful appeal, the Bees goalkeeper had his red-card rescinded after Barnet argued he should not have been dismissed because the offence did not deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity
The 6'3" tall goalkeeper started his career off at the Arsenal academy at the age of 12. Ross was there for 4 years before making the short move from Highbury to Craven Cottage.
During his spell at Fulham, Hitchin-born Ross was known as 'Little Ed', after acting as cover for senior keepers such as Dutch international, Edwin Van der Sar and Mark Crossley. He made a number of appearances on the bench for the Cottagers.
Ross had a number of loan spells whilst at Fulham, making three Football League appearances for Brighton in 2003/04, being named as an unused substitute six times for Doncaster Rovers in 2004/05, and also joining leaders of the Ryman Premier side Yeading, in March 2005.
In August 2005, Flitney signed for Barnet after his release from Fulham. He made his debut in the first round, Carling Cup victory at Bristol Rovers. The goalkeeper, made over 50 appearances for the Bees before being over two-seasons.
The 22-year-old asked to leave the Bees in late 2006, after losing his first-team spot to veteran Lee Harrison. However, he rejected several offers from Conference clubs.
Flitney signed a two-year deal for Grays Athletic on his 23rd birthday, 1st June 2007.
