Joined the club from Weymouth on 31st January 2007 in a deal until the end of the 2006/07 season. Howell made his debut a week later in the 1-0 defeat away at Aldershot Town. He started his career at Notts County as a trainee, and spent a period of time on loan at Spalding United before signing for Crewe Alexandra in July 2000. After a two month spell on loan at Rochdale and just one substitute appearance for Crewe, Howell left the club in the summer of 2001. The 2001/02 season saw him join Southport where he stayed for 2 seasons before spending a season apiece at Morecambe & Halifax. In August 2005 Howell signed for Colchester, but only lasted 7 months at Layer Road before re-signing for Halifax until June 2006, at which time he joined Weymouth. His contract expired at the end of the 2006/07 season and he was released from the club.
