Joined Grays Athletic in the summer of 2005 and made his debut in the opening match of the 2005/06 season away at Burton Albion. After a great start to the 2006/07 season in which he scored 10 goals in 19 appearances, he signed for Wolves on loan with a view to a permanent deal. In only his second game for the club, he scored the winner in a 1-0 victory over QPR - he later signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the club on 2nd January 2007. Since signing for Wolves, his form has attracted the attention of Manchester United, Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Everton. Kightly started his career as a trainee with Essex neighbours Southend United, but after just 19 appearances for the club was released and signed for Grays Athletic. During his time at Southend, Kightly also had a three month loan spell at Farnborough.
