Grays stumbled at in-form Ryman Premier Kingstonian on Saturday. Blues manager Mark Stimson was gutted by the defeat, especially as his men had drawn level with 12 minutes to go. But Grays crashed to a 3-1 defeat and Blues defender Joe Bruce was sent off for a second booking.
Seven minutes after the break Stafford Browne put the home side ahead from a corner by ex-Southend United favourite Mark Beard.
With 12 minutes to go Blues thought they had earned a point when Martin Carthy hustled home the equaliser.
But Kingstonian’s Beard and Browne combined again. Browne tapping in from a cross before, in the final seconds, Bashiru Alimi rammed in a rebound.
Speaking after the game, Stimson blamed poor defence for the final scoreline and added that losing Bruce with 30 minutes to go had made it tight at the back.
