Jay Smith started his career at Brentford as a trainee in 1999. He made over 50 appearances for the The Bees spanning over four years.

In 2004 he then moved to Farnborough, where he stayed for two seasons totalling 79 appearances.

Hammersmith-born Smith then moved to Grays in the summer of 2006, signed by former Farnborough manager Frank Gray. The defender signed a two-year contract but was released a year early at the end of the 2006/07 season.

Follow his release from The New Rec, he has sinced signed for Blue Square South side Havant & Waterlooville, alongside other former Grays players Jamie Slabber and Leroy Griffiths.
