The Scotsman joined Grays from fellow Conference club Woking, where he ended their 06/07 campaign as top goal scorer.
New Cards boss, and former Grays manager, Frank Gray offered Craig a new contract at Kingfield. The appointment of Gray caused McAllister to take some time to mull over his decision whether to stay or join the Blues. However, he opted to join ambitious Grays;
“I want to be at a club that wants to push on, not just one that wants to stay in the league because I've been here for two years doing that already†Craig said.
The forward played a key part in Woking’s FA Trophy run in 05/06, where they eventually met Grays, and lost, in the final at Upton Park.
McAllister started off his career at Eastleigh, followed by a £4,000 move to Basingstoke Town at the end of 01/02. After impressing in a trial against a Brentford XI. Two seasons with Basingstoke, saw him bag 65 goals. This goal scoring record soon caught the interest of several league clubs. The goal-scoring centre forward had trials at QPR, Luton and Stoke and attracted several more inquires.
Eastleigh had a 25 per cent sell on clause with Basingstoke, however Craig moved on a free transfer, when his contract expired, to Stevenage Borough in May 2004, turning down offers from Barnet and Aldershot.
However, he only started three games at Broadhall Way and was soon loaned out to former club Eastleigh and then to Kent side, Gravesend & Northfleet, bagging two goals in five appearances for the Fleet.
In July 2005, he then moved to Woking, where he claimed 34 goals in 105 appearances for the Cardinals before moving to Grays Athletic, signing days before his Woking associate Karl Murray.
Craig spent a short spell on loan at Rushden & Diamonds in October 2007 where he made 4 appearances scoring a single goal. The deal was due to run until January 2008 but was cut short when he was recalled on 9th November 2007. The centre-forward was sent-out again to Rushden & Diamonds on the 22nd November 2007 until January 2008.
On 4th January 2008, Macca signed for Conference rivals Oxford United.
