Alfie had a three-month stint in Peterborough United's Centre of Excellence, before signing a professional contract at the start of the 2007/08 season.
Potter spent six years at Millwall at YTS level, however he wasn't offered a contract as they felt he wasn't tall enough. He then joined Barking Abbey's college academy, before joining for The Posh.
As a 16 year-old, the right-winger also made a number of appearances for Waltham Forest and Stansted Town.
The young midfielder signed one a month's loan deal with The Blues on 20th September 2007.
Posh boss, Darren Ferguson said, "Alfie is one for the future. He can get some games under his belt at a good level with Grays which will help us in the long run."
After a single appearance for Grays, Potter moved on loan to Havant & Waterlooville and played a major part in their success in reaching the FA Cup fourth round, eventually being knocked out by Liverpool, 5-2.
Potter scored The Hawks second goal putting them 2-1 up at Anfield. He was later named player of the round for the fourth round.
