In 1994, Chertsey born Taylor, was sold from Stanies Town for a club record fee of £15,000 to Millwall. Prior to his move into the Football League, Scott worked for catering firm at Heathrow Airport.
He went on to make 32 appearances in all competitions for The Lions, before moving onto Premiership outfit Bolton Wanderers, commanding a transfer fee of £150,000. Taylor only made one appearance in the Premiership for Bolton, coming off from the bench in the 82nd minute for Nathan Blake in a 2-1 win over Chelsea in April 1996.
The Trotters were relegated into Division One at the end of the 1995/96 season. Taylor made a further 11 appearances, scoring three times in the second tier of English football.
The following season Taylor was loaned out to Rotherham United, dropping down into Division Three, he made 10 League appearances scoring three times. Towards the end of the 1997/98 season, the striker was loaned out again, this time to Blackpool where he scored twice in short-spell with The Tangerines.
In October 1998, Tranmere Rovers paid Bolton £350,000 for Taylor's services. Scott stayed at Prenton Park for almost three-years making 130 appearances and scoring 22 goals in the process. He was moved out to a left-wing position by boss John Aldridge, which he later admitted was a role he was not fully comfortable in.
"I've been playing out on the left wing for the past two seasons and that's not really my game. "I continued to play on the left because I wanted to play first-team football, but I prefer playing as a striker and making runs behind the defence." admitted Scott.
After his time at Tranmere, Scott moved to Stockport County under the bosman rule at the start of the 2001/02 season. A move that was made more appealing after Stockport boss Andy Kilner said he'd prefer to play him up front. However his stay at Edgeley Park was short-lived and just six-months after he signed for County, he joined Blackpool - this time on a permanent deal.
In almost two-years for The Tangerines Taylor scored 61 goals in 138 appearances and picking up two LDV Vans Trophy winners medals along the way. His goal scoring efforts caught the eye of Championship side Plymouth Argyle who signed Taylor in late December 2004 for £100,000. The striker went on to make 37 appearances for the Pilgrims scoring five times in just over a year.
Taylor fell out of favour at Home Park and was sold to MK Dons for £100,000 in January 2006, where he made 55 appearances and scored just 5 goals before being released exactly two-years later on 17th February 2008. Scott admitted his chances at stadium:mk were limited after picking up a few injuries.
Prior to leaving The Dons, Taylor had two short one-month loan spells out. The first at Brentford in March 2007 and then Rochdale in October 2007.
A day after Scott's released, it was announced that Grays Ath had signed the 31-year old until the end of the 2007/08 season.
Scott's first goals for the Blues came in the form of a hat-trick in the Setanta Shield clash against Welling United on 29th January 2008.
After making 19 appearances and scoring three times in the Blue Square Premier, Taylor left Grays for Lewes despite being offered a new contract at The New Rec.
