Deptford-born Welsh, started his career as a trainee with West Ham United before signing pro-terms in July 2005. Failing to make the cut at West Ham, he departed without making a single competitive appearance.
The winger was picked up by Yeovil Town, following a successful trial after playing in a string of friendlies.
"He's shown a lot of potential in the few games he's been here, but moreover he's performed very well in training. He's been here about three or four weeks so we've had ample time to look at him and assess him,ā€¯ said Yeovil manager, Russell Slade.
He signed a two-year contract joining ex-West Ham team mates Danny Behcet and Chris Cohen - who grew up in Grays.
He made quite an impact on his Football League debut, scoring the winning goal for the Glovers versus Carlisle United at Huish Park on 12th August 2006. Yeovil won 2-1.
However, Welsh failed to establish himself as a regular for Yeovil and was sent out on loan to Weymouth in May 2007, making nine Conference starts for The Terras. He made a brief cameo start for Yeovil in their last league game of the season away to Gillingham, in which they won 2-0. He was not included in any of the Glovers play-off games.
Welsh joined Blue Square Premier new boys Torquay United on loan at the start of the 2007/08 season, in a deal that was suppose to run until the end of the footballing calendar. He made a total of 18 Blue Square Premier appearances for the Gulls, only starting five times, scoring just once.
On the 11th November 2007, Welsh's parent club Yeovil Town met fellow west-country outfit Torquay United in the first round of the FA Cup. Yeovil demanded that Torquay not involve Welsh in the side otherwise they would cancel the loan agreement. The Gulls included him on the bench for the tie, despite the prior warning, although he was not brought on. Torquay went on to claim a 4-1 victory.
He was recalled from his loan spell at Plainmoor and promptly loaned out to Forest Green Rovers where he stayed until the end of the season, making 16 Blue Square Premier appearances, including five coming from the bench.
Welsh joined Grays Ath on 7th May 2008 and made 40 league appearances scoring three times. He left Grays at the end of the season and subsequently joined league rivals Ebbsfleet United.
The speedy winger rejoined the club on 21 August 2010, ready for the new 2010/11 season.
