The 20-year-old striker signed for Grays Ath on 22nd May 2008, joining from League Two outfit Brentford. Charlie came through the youth ranks at Griffin Park where he joined when he was just 10-years-old.
Ide made his professional debut in on 7th May 2005, in Brentford’s 2-1 win at home over Hull City in a League One encounter. Prior to that he spent February 2005 through to April on loan to Slough Town in the Ryman Premier. He made 8 appearances in the Ryman Premier and scored just once for The Rebels.
The following season, 2005/06, he was sent out on loan to Sutton United in the Conference South to gain some first team experience. However, his loan only lasted two months, as Brentford boss Leroy Rosenior recalled him after he scored 4 goals in 6 appearances for Sutton.
Ide scored his first goal for the Bees at Griffin Park in a match against Tranmere Rovers on 9th December 2006. He got the opener on the 38th minute before being cancelled out by Tranmere in the 45th.
During the 2006/07 season, Ide was pushed out to play right-wing, and managed to get 7 goals in 29 appearances in all competitions. The following season, Ide managed to net just once for Brentford in 23 matches.
In March 2008, Ide was loaned out to Blue Square South champions, Lewes for the remainder of the season.
Ide’s last game for Brentford was in December 2007, in a 3-0 victory over Chester City at home. In total Charlie played 54 games for the Bees in all competitions scoring 8 goals in the process.
