Born in Chatham in 1979, Sambrook joined local club Gillingham as a trainee and made just one appearance for the first team. After a spell in New York, Andy returned to the UK and signed for Rushden & Diamonds in September 2001. After 4 seasons at the club, and following Rushden's relegation to the Conference, Sambrook was signed by the club in the summer of 2005. His debut for the club was in the 1-1 draw with Burton Albion, and he was part of the FA Trophy winning team, which beat Woking 2-0 in the final. He made 43 appearances for the club in the 2006/07 season and also recieved the Directors Player of the Season award. He signed a one year deal for the 2007/08 season in May 2008.
