Simon started his career as a Millwall trainee before signing for Grays Athletic in August 2004, alongside Carl Emberson. He then moved onto Dagenham & Redbridge on a non-contract terms at the start of the 2004/05 season.

The young goalkeeper spent a successful period on loan at Maldon Town, playing a big part in the side which gained promotion to the Ryman Premier. In the play-offs, Simon made a trio of penalty saves.

Overland made a handful of appearances for the Daggers in the 2005/06 season, albeit in the county cups before being loaned out once again, this time to Kent side Ashford Town before moving on to Dulwich Hamlet.

He then signed for Fisher Athletic at the start of the 2007/08 season.

Overland re-signed for Grays Ath in December 2008, reuniting with former Fish boss, Wayne Burnett.
