A brace of goals from Freddy Eastwood earned Grays another three points away at Basingstoke on Tuesday.
But the night was not so much fun for Ade Olayinka who was sent off when he received an unnecessary second yellow card.
Basingstoke exerted the early pressure, but Grays goalkeeper Mel Capleton was on form and kept the home side at bay.
At the end of the first half Eastwood struck nipping and tucking the defence and keeper before finding the corner of the net.
In the second half the visitors defence had to deal with Basingstoke’s threatening duo Alex Ewell and Neville Roach.
Olayinka’s departure allowed Stoke back into the game and again Capleton was needed to save the day.
Blues’ second goal came when Leroy Griffiths on the left, and his sweeping cross fell to Eastwood who put a scrappy match beyond doubt.
