Cautious Harrow frustrate Grays

Grays missed out on taking second place in the Ryman Premier after they found themselves pegged back to a 0-0 draw by Harrow Borough on Saturday.

Minus leading goal scorer Freddy Eastwood, but on the back of an excellent midweek 4-1 victory over Maidenhead, Blues had hoped that they would be able to draw closer to Canvey Island’s runaway train.

But it was not to be, as Harrow frustrated Blues at every turn without seeming too keen to stretch themselves in attack.

After a bright start the game soon became a scrappy match with Leroy Griffiths breaking only to find hid shot thwarted by Richard Goddard.

Borough keeper Keita Karamoko was on form and denied several other Blues shots.

The half came to a bad-tempered conclusion following a scuffle, but the second period got underway in much better style as Griffiths again signalled his striking tendencies and tormented Harrow’s defence.

Again, Goddard’s tackle prevented Griffiths making hay.

Increasingly scrappy midfield play and hard challenges made for an unedifying game for both on-the-make Grays and their travelling fans, who had hoped to return home knowing that they overtaken Hendon.

But it was not to be even though stalwart defender Eddie Youds came close in the dying minutes with a header which appeared to cross the line before being gathered by Borough keeper Karamoko.

That it was ruled out was to the anger of Blues fan the frustration of Blues manager Mark Stimson.
