Jamie born in Sidcup, graduated in the England School of Excellence at Lilleshall along with top players such as Wes Brown and Michael Owen. Whilst in the Arsenal Youth set-up, he won caps for England at various levels. These include Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18.
In 1999, Jamie signed for AFC Bournemouth for a fee of £20,000. He then switched from The Cherries to Dover Athletic at the start of the 01/02 season, before moving to fellow Kent side Welling United in 2004.
The midfielder won a handful of awards at Welling including Players Player of The Year, Goal of The Season and was runner-up in Supporters Player of The Year.
The 27-year-old joined Grays on a two-year contract, in the close of the 06/07 season. His signing was released shortly after former Welling colleague and Conference South goal-machine, Danny Kedwell was announced. Jamie played against Grays in the FA Trophy Quarter Final at Park View Road. Grays eased to a 4-1 win over The Wings on a wet February afternoon.
Day admitted the lure of playing at a higher level and full-time football proved to be a big factor;
"The main reason was stepping up and playing in the Blue Square Premier, which is probably like League Two now in terms of the standard," Day said. "When I spoke to Grays, they seemed like a club who wanted to progress and move forward and they offer full-time football; every footballer wants full-time football. Welling are my local club and I had three good years there with the various cup runs, but I just felt the time was right to move on."
Day was released on loan to Eastbourne Borough and Havant & Waterlooville during the 2007/08 season.
