Swifts exit for Grays in county cup Blue Square Premier side Grays Athletic had their wings clipped in tonight's Essex Senior Cup tie at a wet and windy New Rec.
Despite cut price admission just 132 supporters turned out to see Ryman Premier Heybridge Swifts upset the home side's applecart with two first-half goals.
Blues boss Justin Edinburgh fielded a somewhat experimental team for the tie but found themselves two down in the first half.
The first came on 20 minutes from former Colchester United player David Wareham, who spent a brief spell with Grays last season.
They put the final nail in Grays' cup coffin just eight minutes before half time, when young striker Mark Reddaway netted.
Grays tried hard to get back into the tie and hit the bar and came close with a couple of goalmouth scrambles.
Swifts keeper Ollie Morris-Sanders also produced some good saves to keep any Grays resurgence at bay as it proved to be the night of the underdog.
