Jamie Stuart and Grays Athletic chairman Mick Woodward were dishing out instructions from the sidelines as troubled Blues made hard work of their clash with Concord Rangers in the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday.
In the first game since the dramatic sacking of Frank Gray, the Grays Athletic duo engineered a scraped win at The Rec, as Blues fielded a mixture of youth and experience.
Jamie Slabber had a header cleared off the line in the first half, and it wasn't until Lee Boylan nodded in just after the hour mark that the deadlock was finally broken.
The visitors could even have forced a period of extra time, had guardian Danny Knowles not saved Olly Baker's late penalty.
